Leadership at LTI

So many students do not have access to the core elements of an effective leadership program, such as a mentor with prior leadership experience, a cohort of peers of diverse backgrounds, and a time-tested curriculum. That’s what we provide at LTI - all for free, allowing us to reach students from underprivileged backgrounds.

An Expansive Reach

We recruit from dozens of high schools in the Boston area so we can reach as many promising young leaders as possible. Through our efforts, in LTI’s 15 year history, we have mentored nearly 1,000 students, many of whom are now college students, advanced degree students, or working professionals.

A Diverse Cohort

Our students have often found a home in the Boston area after moving long distances, sometimes even from foreign countries. Many of our students each year our multilingual (and often focus their final project on helping multilingual communities). Our MIT student mentors, too, come from dozens of different states and countries, strengthening the diverse LTI community - and, as a consequence, the foundations of our program.

Evidence-Informed and Experience-Tested

Our curriculum was developed through a combination of experience (involving much trial and error), and through research into different leadership and pedagogical strategies. Each year, we make our program better by adjusting our various teaching, mentorship, and logistical knobs, and keeping what creates the best student experience.
