Meet Our Mentors
Leadership Mentors (LMs)
Eleane is a junior in Course 5-7 (Chemistry and BIology) and she just joined LTI this spring! She is from Fall River, MA, a small Portuguese town just about an hour away from MIT. On campus, Eleane is involved with dance, community service projects, and President of a club that supports first-gen/low-income students. She also likes to cook, sing, and play ukulele. Eleane is excited to be a Leadership Mentor and share some of her favorite icebreakers :D.
This is Olivia Valle, a sophomore at MIT majoring in Course 6-9, Computation and Cognition. She is interested in human behavior, mental illness, and neurodegenerative diseases. She hopes to use artificial intelligence and machine learning in order to make a difference within one of these fields someday. In her free time, she loves going to the gym, reading good books, driving to the beach, and drinking coffee!
William Woltmann is a sophomore studying chemical engineering with a biomedical concentration and also minoring in biomedical engineering. Having family members involved in medicine has inspired him to take an interest in the medical field and the problems that can be solved with technology. William enjoys being active as a member of the football and track and field teams at MIT and hanging out with his brothers of Delta Kappa Epsilon.
Rionna Flynn is a junior majoring in physics and theater arts. They love acting in theater productions, playing violin and piano, singing in their a cappella group (the Asymptones), and reading science fiction and fantasy novels. They're passionate about teaching and mentoring younger students, and one of their greatest joys is watching their LTI mentees develop new leadership skills and create incredible projects of their own.
Hi! My name is Jennifer Xiong and I'm studying biological engineering. I swim for MIT varsity swim and dive, and in my spare time I love watching movies, listening to music, and baking with friends!
I am Lucia Padilla, a freshman studying biological engineering. In my free time, I like to run, read, and going on hikes with friends!
Dennis is a sophomore from Lincoln, Rhode Island. He studies Data Science and Business Analytics, and plays on the Football team at MIT. Outside of school, he likes to surf and hang out with his friends.
Project Mentors (PMs)
Vaishnavi is a sophomore at MIT majoring in Computer Science & Molecular Biology. As head project mentor, she refines the LTI project development curriculum. Outside of classes and LTI, Vaishnavi spends most of her time in her lab doing research in cancer biology. She also enjoys running, watching movies, going to coffee shops, and collecting nerdy items like cell plushies.
Hey, I’m Kate Pearce. At MIT, I study computer science and molecular biology (6-7) and might throw a math minor in there. Outside of academics, I play on the Women’s Club Soccer team, race cyclocross with MIT Cycling, mentor young girls in math at Girls’ Angle, give campus tours, and do research in the Media Lab. I love being outside and traveling, from hiking and slacklining to biking and camping. I’m excited to help students create awesome projects that they’re passionate about in my third year of serving as a PM for LTI!
Sharon is a sophomore currently studying Computer Science and Engineering and is fascinated by computational healthcare applications. She is extremely excited to be working with enthusiastic young leaders to create meaningful community impact! During her free time, Sharon enjoys photography, drawing, and travelling.
Kenny is a sophomore studying public health and epidemiology, but since that is not an official major, he technically is getting a major or minor in math, writing, and biology. He likes writing because of its power to inform, especially about topics like infectious diseases, which can be very scary if communicated improperly. In his free time, Kenny likes playing guitar, reading all sorts of cool things, and making spreadsheets and Access databases.
Hello! My name is Flora and I’m a junior from Connecticut studying mechanical engineering. This is my first year as a project mentor with LTI. In addition to LTI, I sing in concert choir, I teach welding classes, and I coordinate a program for first year students about community service in and around MIT. In my free time, I like to cook and exercise with my friends. I am excited to get to know you all!
My name is Jason Lee, and I’m a freshman at MIT, hoping to study computer science and molecular biology. I’m from Orange County, California and grew up there my whole life until I moved to Cambridge this past summer. In my free time, I enjoy going on food adventures and road-tripping. I also have a YouTube channel where I post college-related content from time to time.
Sydney Vleck is a sophomore studying chemical-biological engineering with a minor in economics. She is fascinated by pharmaceuticals and has done research on extended drug delivery systems. She also enjoys cheering on her favorite hockey team, the Calgary Flames, and watching magic tricks. She is excited to be working with future leaders to help them create a meaningful contribution to their community!
Rik is a freshman who is studying electrical engineering and computer science. He enjoys building technologies that make a positive impact on a community. In his spare time, Rik can be found on the basketball court shooting hoops or in his room jamming to an acoustic guitar.
Jose is a junior from Los Angeles, CA studying course 5-7 (Chemistry and Biology). He has a passion for teaching, opening up opportunities to teach STEM subjects in Spain and Mexico. This is his third year as a PM and looks forward to the end product of his students hard work.
